Privacy, terms, and how the AI works
Written from what the system actually does, not from a template. If something here is vague, that is a bug — tell us and we will make it specific.
Last updated 6 September 2026 · This is a trial service.
You are talking to an AI, and where its answers come from
The assistant on this site is AI. It is not a person, and it does not pretend to be one.
It answers only from the business data it was given — a menu, a price list, a policy document. It is built to say “I don't have that” rather than guess, and every answer can name the rows it used. It can still be wrong: it may miss something that is in the data, or phrase something in a way the business would not. Do not rely on it for anything that matters without checking with the business itself.
The demo on the home page answers as an invented restaurant, so no real business is represented by it.
What we record when you use the demo
We record, for each demo conversation:
- the messages you send and the answers the assistant gives;
- timing and outcome information — how long an answer took, whether a tool was called, whether the answer failed;
- a randomly generated session identifier, which is not linked to a name, an account, or an email address, because the demo asks for none of those.
Your IP address is used, in memory, to apply the rate limit that keeps the demo affordable. It is not stored alongside your conversation.
Do not type anything confidential into the demo. It is a public trial and the conversations are read by us while we improve the product.
When you chat with a business's assistant
Some chat links and website widgets run a business's own assistant — built from that business's menu, price list or documents rather than the demo. This section covers those conversations. The “What we do with it” and retention sections above apply to them as well.
For each conversation with a business's assistant, we record:
- the messages you send and the replies the assistant gives;
- the rows or documents each reply was built from, and the tool lookups behind it;
- timing, model and token-usage information for each turn.
Conversations are read by us to find where the assistant failed — the same improvement purpose described above. Answers are generated by a third-party language-model provider. To produce a reply, your message and the parts of the business's data relevant to it are sent to that provider.
Who can see a conversation: our team, through an internal administration console. The business whose assistant you chatted with cannot browse conversations in the product today — that capability does not exist — so a transcript would be requested from us, not from them.
If you choose to share your name and contact details so the business can follow up — the assistant only does this after you explicitly say yes — those details go to that business, not just to us. You control whether that happens; the assistant will not send them without your yes.
There is no deletion promise: conversations are kept, and we have not yet set a deletion schedule — we will state one plainly when it exists. The usage ledger is append-only by design — the database itself refuses updates and deletions. Do not type anything confidential into a chat you would not want kept.
Your account
When you create an account, we store your email address, a password hash (Supabase, our authentication provider, does the hashing — we never see or store your plain password), the time you accepted these terms, and whether you asked to receive product news.
We also record which version of this consent text you agreed to, so if the wording changes later we know what you actually agreed to at the time.
To delete your account, email us at hello@chatmate-eg.com and we will remove it. There is no self-serve delete yet — this is something we do by hand on request.
Product news (optional)
If you ticked the box at sign-up, we may occasionally email you about new features. You can unsubscribe from any of these emails, and we never sell this list to anyone.
Who processes data for us
Supabase stores our database, handles sign-in, and stores the documents you upload, in their London (eu-west-2) region.
Render hosts the application itself.
Groq provides the language model that writes the assistant's answers. To produce a reply, your message and the relevant parts of the business's own data are sent to Groq.
Our email-sending provider sends account emails: confirmation, password reset, and product news if you opted in.
Documents you upload
Documents you upload are stored in our private file storage (Supabase Storage) and used only to answer that business's own customers.
Each document is split into smaller searchable pieces so the assistant can find the right paragraph when answering a question.
To have a document removed, email us — there isn't yet a self-serve delete button for your own documents, only one we can do internally.
What we do with it
We read demo conversations to find out where the assistant fails — a question it should have answered and did not, an answer that came back wrong. That is the entire purpose of the trial.
We do not sell this data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not share it with anyone outside the people building this product.
Answers are generated by a third-party language-model provider, which means the text of your message is sent to that provider to produce a reply. Retrieval of the business's own data happens on our infrastructure.
How long it is kept, honestly
Conversations and the usage records tied to them are kept for the duration of the trial and the analysis that follows it. We have not yet set a deletion schedule, and rather than invent one here we will state it plainly when it exists.
One thing we cannot offer and will not claim to: the billing ledger is append-only by design — the database itself refuses updates and deletions — so records of usage cannot be erased on request. If that matters to you, do not use the demo.
Your rights, and the law that applies
For visitors in Egypt, Law No. 151 of 2020 on the Protection of Personal Data applies. It gives you the right to know what is held about you, to ask for it to be corrected, and to object to how it is used.
Because the demo collects no name, email, or account, there is usually nothing that identifies you to retrieve. If you believe a conversation of yours should be removed, write to us with roughly when it happened and we will find it and delete the conversation text.
We hold no certification and claim none. This section describes what we do, not a badge we have been given.
Terms, kept short because the service is small
This is a free trial service offered as-is, with no guarantee of availability. It runs on free infrastructure that sleeps when idle, so it can be slow to answer the first question or briefly unavailable.
Do not use it to break the law, to attempt to extract another business's data, or to send abusive content. We may stop serving anyone doing so.
We may change or withdraw the service at any time during the trial. If you have onboarded your own business data and we withdraw it, we will tell you first.
Who to write to
Questions about anything on this page, including a request to delete a conversation, go to hello@chatmate-eg.com. A real person reads it.
